SYNOPSIS

The 1965 Freedom Ride marked a turning point in the Australian civil rights movement when a group of 29 University of Sydney students, led by Charles Perkins, travelled through rural New South Wales to challenge racism and segregation against Aboriginal people. 7 of the Riders were Jewish, including future Chief Justice Jim Spigelman. Intimately observed by director Eliya Cohen, the film documents a commemorative journey in 2025, when Stand Up brought a new generation of Aboriginal and Jewish youth together to recreate the steps of the historic trip, building on the unique allyship between these remarkable communities.
